Favorite Books For Summer – A Review by My 11-Year-Old

My 11-year-old daughter loves to read. I thought it would be fun to share her thoughts on her favorite books from this summer. These reviews are in her own words. Also, I had to pay her $10. 🙂

My first book recommendation is called “Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children,” by Ransom Riggs. This book is about a boy named Jacob. His grandfather used to go to this mysterious island as a kid where he stayed safe at a school called “Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children.” Jacob’s grandfather wants Jacob to go to the school to stay safe from people who are off to get him, so, Jacob and his dad go to the island. His dad sees this trip as a vacation, but to Jacob, it’s full of fun and mystery. He goes back in time to a school where very, maybe dangerous, curious kids have an adventure trying to avoid any interaction with people because they may be dangerous. I recommend this book because it is a very good book with adventurous stunts and interesting facts and photos. 

My second book review is a book called “Blended,” by Sharon M. Draper. This book is about a girl named Isabella, whose mom is white and dad is black. Isabella’s parents get divorced near the beginning of the book, her dad lives only a little while away and every week she goes to her mom or dad’s house. In this book, a girl and her parents go through hard times being pushed around by the color of her skin rather than her personality. I recommend this book because it’s very interesting and fun to read with a friend.

My third book recommendation is called “Fish in a Tree,” by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. This book is about a girl named Ally. Ally has dyslexia which is where it takes a little longer for some people to learn how to read. In the book, Ally has a teacher named Mr. Daniels who helps her learn to believe in herself that she can learn to read. He encourages her and helps her out through the whole book. I recommend this book because it is very funny and it teaches lessons.

The fourth book that I recommend is called “Auggie and Me,” by R.J. Palacio. This is a book that is about 4 kids named Julian, Jack, Charlotte, and Auggie. In the book, Auggie is teased about his appearance and the way he looks, but along the way, his friends stand up for him for how kind and nice he is. I recommend this book too because it teaches good lessons that all people should know.

My last and final book recommendation is called “Explorer,” by Katherine Rundell. This book is about 4 kids who survive a plane crash and are stranded in the Amazon forest. All kids make their way through the forest and try to get through by themselves. I recommend this book because it’s an exciting story with so much adventure and excitement throughout the book.

In conclusion, all these books that I read are all very interesting, exciting, and not too long and not too short books to read over the summer or for back to school books.
